History of the Federation Universe

The history of the universe is long and full of stories of heroics and terrible acts. Many of these have been lost to time. History is separated into eras and periods for representing groups of events, and time spans like days, months, years, decades, centuries, and millenniums for a standard unit.

The Dawn of Humanity: Paleolithic Era (2.5 million - 10,000 BCE)

The journey of humankind began in the Paleolithic era, characterized by nomadic hunter-gatherer societies. Our ancestors, Homo habilis and Homo erectus, crafted tools and learned to control fire. The emergence of Homo sapiens marked a significant leap in cognitive abilities, leading to the development of language and more sophisticated tools. The only notable recorded event was the crash of the Dominion shuttle, 22-B-51-OC1.

Agricultural Revolution (10,000 - 2,000 BCE)

Around 10,000 BCE, humans transitioned from nomadic lifestyles to settled agricultural communities. This Agricultural Revolution allowed for surplus food production, leading to population growth, the formation of villages, and the rise of early civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus Valley, and the Yellow River Valley.

Classical Civilizations (600 BCE - 600 CE)

During this period, powerful civilizations emerged in Greece, Rome, India, and China. These societies made significant contributions to philosophy, science, literature, and governance. The Greek city-states developed democracy, while the Roman Empire created an extensive legal system and infrastructure.

Middle Ages (500 - 1500 CE)

The fall of the Roman Empire led to the Middle Ages, a period marked by feudalism, the spread of Christianity, and the rise of medieval kingdoms. The Byzantine Empire, Islamic Caliphates, and various European kingdoms played crucial roles in shaping the medieval world.

Renaissance and Age of Exploration (14th - 17th centuries)

The Renaissance brought a revival of art, culture, and learning in Europe. Concurrently, the Age of Exploration saw navigators like Columbus, Magellan, and others venture into uncharted territories, connecting the continents. This era led to global trade networks and cultural exchanges.

Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution (17th - 19th centuries)

The Enlightenment promoted reason, science, and individual rights. The Industrial Revolution transformed economies with the mechanization of production, leading to urbanization and significant social changes. The rise of nationalism and political revolutions, including the American and French Revolutions, reshaped the political landscape.

20th Century: Wars and Globalization (1900 - 2000)

The 20th century witnessed two World Wars that reshaped global power dynamics. The Cold War emerged between the United States and the Soviet Union, defining international relations for decades. Advancements in technology, communication, and transportation fueled globalization, connecting people and cultures across the globe.

Contemporary Era (2000 - 2063)

The 21st century was marked by rapid technological advancements, the rise of information technology, and interconnected economies. Global challenges such as climate change, terrorism, and pandemics required international cooperation. The world faced complex geopolitical shifts, economic transformations, and ongoing social struggles, including a new Cold War between a Western Bloc, and an Eastern Bloc. This era witnessed what was the greatest man-made disaster ever, The Devastation War.

The Devastation Era (2063 - 2115)

The Devastation Era was an apocalyptic time, where radiation storms and ash clouds covered much of the earth's surface. Many of the nations that had participated in this collapse of civilization had been destroyed, the only remains being sparse bunkers and facilities. However, some nations survived and reconnected, starting the cleanup of earth.

The Cleansing Era (2115 - 2138)

The Cleansing Era was a grand era of expansion and clean-up, where fleets of radiation absorbing ships, and huge air-cleaning facilities were constructed to clean up. Ground-based assets removed the old wrecks of the past nations, and vast fabrication craft constructed new cities on the ashes of the old.

The Secession Era (2138 - 2156)

This era's biggest event was the uprising of a radical faction within the former nation of America, after losing a vote to not divide the federation of nations that had healed the world. Believing themselves to be the true heirs to America's legacy, these citizenries created a war that would last for centuries. This era ended with the radical group, the Corpus Alliance, fleeing thousands of light years away to get away from the Federation's growing power.

The Diaspora (2156-2178)

In this era, The Federation grows from a small nation, into a prospering class-2 nation on the Kardashev scale. Meanwhile, the Corpus Alliance struggled to develop a single city, but after the founding of a brand-new religion, a perverted hyper-conservative version of Christianity. This resulted in the formation of society built around an extreme religion, where anything below complete loyalty to the pope and nation was considered grounds for apprehension and punishment.

The Aeternus Era (2178-2215)

This era starts with the reestablishment of contact with the Corpus Alliance, only for a massive invasion fleet, the First Corpus Crusade, to cross over the border and wreak havoc across a dozen Federation systems. This fleet was defeated by a gathering of ships from nearly every federation system. The federation undergoes a massive internal military reorganization, ending with the construction of more than ten thousand space-based military installations, and dozens of fortress planets.

The Battle Barge Era (2215-2298)

The Battle Barge Era, so named for the use of gigantic heavily armed cruisers, was the longest period of war in humanity's history. Hundreds of battles being fought every day. Hundreds of millions of casualties. Eventually, battles, and the militaries that fought them, slowly became more and more mechanical, until battles happened almost automatically. This changed with the Federation's second grand reorganization, which forced their opponents to adapt to their new equipment and strategies. The beginnings of the Animalborn revolt begin to form.
